01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

Nestled in the heart of Jombang Wetan, Cilegon, Warung Makan Nasi Gonjleng is a culinary gem that offers an authentic taste of local Bantenese flavors. This humble diner specializes in traditional Cilegonese cuisine, with its signature dish, Nasi Gonjleng, taking center stage. Often described as a lighter, more fragrant take on nasi kebuli, Nasi Gonjleng is a fragrant rice dish infused with delicate spices, perfectly complemented by tender cuts of meat and tendon, lightly spiced to awaken your palate without overwhelming it.

One cannot miss trying their famed sate bandeng, a unique satay made from milkfish that delivers a subtly sweet and smoky flavor, offering a delicate sweetness that lingers pleasantly. Portions here are generous, often too large for one person, making it a perfect dish to share—though you might wish you had your own.

The dining atmosphere at Warung Makan Nasi Gonjleng is warm and welcoming, reflecting the simplicity and sincerity of true street-side dining in Cilegon. It’s the kind of place where locals gather, and visitors are invited to immerse themselves in genuine culinary traditions, enhanced by attentive and friendly service.

Regular patrons rave about the opportunity to enjoy dishes traditionally reserved for Islamic Holy Days at any time, turning each visit into a culturally rich experience. Adding extras like salted egg or crunchy crackers enhances the texture and layers of flavor, making every bite a delightful adventure.

Whether you're a culinary enthusiast eager to explore regional specialties or a first-time visitor curious about Cilegonese fare, Warung Makan Nasi Gonjleng promises a memorable meal that captures the heart and heritage of the region. Prepare to indulge in bold, nuanced flavors that echo the local culture, leaving you craving another visit.

If you like to try some local Cilegonese cuisine. Try this one. A staple of Cilegonese food that usually eaten on Islamic Holy Day. But, we could enjoy it daily right now. As there is no restrictions for eating this meal outside of Islamic Holy Day and for Moslem only food.

One of the good street food in cilegon. While you're here it's recommended to try their nasi gonjleng with meat, and tendon ( slightly spicy) . Also a good idea to put additional salted egg or cracker. If you're foreigners and doesn't know what to order, just show them Nasi gonjleng dengan daging, dan otot.

Nasi gonjleng was great, like a lighter version of nasi kebuli. The sate bandeng was a bit sweet for my taste.

One of the best culinary for breakfast or lunch in Cilegon.. Nasi gonjleng is herb rice, like kebuli, served with Rabeg, local beef dish like semur, or Bandeng Satay, or jengkol maybe, pickles, and shrimp crackers. The place is not like a restaurant, more like kiosk.
